Shady Point SDA Church Healthful Living/Vegetarian Recipes/Rice and Pasta
PETER’S HERBED BAKED BROWN RICE *
Ingredients
3 cups brown rice
6 cups water
½ to 1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons McKay’s chicken or beef seasoning
1 teaspoon onion powder
2- 3 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley (optional)
½ teaspoon paprika (optional)
1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
Place all ingredients in a 9 X 13-inch casserole dish. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 1 ½ hours.
This rice comes out perfect every time! Vary seasonings per your taste!

MARIAH’S RIGATONI MARINARA
Ingredients
1 pound rigatoni pasta cooked per package direction (or any type of pasta will do)
Ingredients for Sauce
1 large can crushed tomatoes
1 15 ounce can tomato sauce
2 tablespoons fresh parsley
½ tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon basil
1 ½ cups chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 green pepper, chopped
¼ pound fresh mushrooms, chopped or 1 small can of mushrooms
Instructions
Sauté onion and garlic in oil. Add green pepper and mushrooms. Add rest
of ingredients and simmer 20 minutes. (If you have time, it’s better if
simmered 1 hour).
Serve sauce over pasta.
